The Dynamic Earth Surface cluster is developing solutions to ensure the sustainability of Australian and global environments in the face of unprecedented stresses and rapid global change. Drawing on our expertise across the fields of geomorphology and biogeography we investigate surface processes under past, current and future climate scenarios.
Research in this cluster addresses critical issues of ecosystem collapse, sea level rise and flooding from the alps to ocean. We have specific research expertise in the densely populated fluvial and coastal landscapes of Australia, as well as in desert and karst environments.
Research in this cluster is globally extensive, with projects in New Zealand, Asia and the Pacific, the Caribbean, central South America, southern Africa, the Mediterranean, central Europe, and Iceland. Acknowledging the fundamental role that humans play in shaping the environment, our work is intimately linked to that of Traditional Owners across Country to ensure sustainability for all.
