The Migration, Mobility and Population cluster conducts research on multiple forms of human mobility at a range of spatial and temporal scales with a geographic focus on Australia, Asia and the Pacific.
In Australia, our research explores the experiences of migrants in relation to resettlement, belonging and identity, and the transnational networks that migrants sustain. We also have specific expertise on employment-related mobilities in urban and regional locations, mobilities that are related to agricultural, environmental and technological change.
Beyond Australia, our research explores mobility and migration related to global environmental change in low-lying islands in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, as well as internal migration in China, India and Indonesia. At longer timescales, we have research expertise in deep-time human migration and mobility through archaeological approaches and methods for researching past environments.
