The majority of the world population now live in urban areas. Rapid urbanisation continues to take place in both developed and developing countries. The need to design, build and manage more sustainable, just and resilient cities has become one of the defining challenges of our time.
Subjects in the Urban Geography Pathway explore the governance of cities; their social dynamics and diversity; their changing built and natural environments; and the vulnerabilities and resilience of cities to environmental and social pressures.
Skills associated with this pathway
Graduates of the Urban Geography Pathway will gain skills in spatial analysis, urban policy analysis, social science research methods, critical thinking and writing.
Recommend course structure
Pathways are designed to help students identify geography subjects focused on a specific theme. Pathways are not formal degrees or qualifications, rather they are recommended groupings of similar or related subjects that students may choose to enrol in if they wish to develop an expertise in a specific topic of interest, or to build a particular skill base for their preferred career path.
