The mesoscale processes and convection group study the atmospheric processes behind phenomena such as clouds, rainfall, thunderstorms, seabreezes, turbulence, wind and solar energy potential, wind gusts, lightning and tropical weather.
We use observations from satellites, weather stations and remote sensing, as well as next-generation modelling systems to support our science. Our work is critical for understanding meteorological hazards, as well as improving numerical models and quantifying renewable energy resources.
We work closely with the Centre of Excellence for Weather of the 21st Century and the ACCESS-NRI.
