Engagement and outreach in the School

We love to share our research with the community and create excitement about scientific discovery. We work with schools and community groups, industry and government partners and alumni to demonstrate how we help create just societies and sustainable environments.

What we're doing

  • Public seminars

We hold regular seminars that are open to the public. Find out what’s coming up and watch previous seminars.

  • Working with community

We are globally connected scholars, generating vibrant teaching, research, organisational and community networks.

  • Partnering with industry and government

We work with industry, government, and civil society, including collaborations, support for student projects, geological surveys, and analytical and consulting services.

  • School outreach

Our outreach activities provide students with the opportunity to learn more about the types of research taking place in our School and engage in hands-on activities.

Dynamic earth updates

We maintain all kinds of monitoring stations across Melbourne and Australia. View live weather and seismic updates, see how Australians are using through our electricity usage monitor or look at the wind and temperatures around Port Phillip Bay.

  • Weather station

A wide range of up-to-the-minute weather data gathered from the roof of the McCoy Building in our Parkville campus.

  • Greenhouse Gas Factsheets

Comprehensive, interactive plots, factsheets and data download options for atmospheric surface concentrations of 43 greenhouse gases and three equivalent time series from 2000 years ago to 2500CE.

  • Seismic station

Australia-wide and global seismic monitoring using Australian Geophysical Observing System seismometers deployed by the University.

  • Bay winds

Port Phillip Bay winds and temperatures from the Bureau of Meteorology, CSIRO and the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria.
