Myanmar Research Network
The School of Geography engagement seed funding provided financial support for two key activities of the Myanmar Research Network: the launch of the network and support for the PK Forum, an online engagement platform.
Myanmar Research Network Launch - 8 October 2019
The launch and inaugural meeting of the University of Melbourne Myanmar Research Network was a success with more than 50 attendees. We were very pleased with the level of interest and look forward to future discussions and collaborations. There was a range of research expertise and interest in the room, ranging across areas of politics, environment, development, health, education, and language. We have set up a mailing list and solicited a call for a Myanmar Student Representative to join the Network steering committee. We are also planning monthly events and incorporating feedback from the launch into future activity planning.
Our November event was an informal “Lunch Launch” for Vanessa Lamb’s new book 'Knowing the Salween' and in Dec 2019 we co-organised 'The reproduction of vulnerability: The life of Rohingya Refugees in Bangladesh', a seminar with Australia-Myanmar Institute and Development Studies on the topic of the Rohingya conflict.

- Dr Tamas Wells (Development Studies.
