Quaternary Landscapes and Sediment (QuaLaS)
We investigate a wide range of Earth surface processes over various timescales in the Quaternary to better understand the dynamic evolution of our environment.
The Quaternary Landscapes and Sediment (QuaLaS) group are particularly interested in the drylands and subtropical landscapes across the Southern Hemisphere, concentrated on Australia and South America. Due to the growing recognition of landscapes as complex systems, we have set a focus on exploring landscape-scale sediment cycling through the interplay between fluvial, aeolian and lacustrine systems. In addition, we examine past human-environment interactions in diverse geomorphic settings around the world. Our research approach (and philosophy) is strongly field-based and applies a wide set of laboratory methods centred around geochronology in our UoM Luminescence Dating Facility.
