Vacuum Chamber
The Abbess Instruments 24" Cube Style Vacuum Chamber is a free standing unit that has been tested to produce 29.92 inches of Hg or better. It is constructed from a heavy aluminium frame with a clear Perspex lid which allows for constant monitoring.
It is housed in the Petrophysics Laboratory at the University of Melbourne where it is used to introduce water into rock samples so that their pore spaces can be entirely saturated - necessary for accurate density and thermal conductivity measurements.
